Elle King unleashed a summer anthem to kick off the weekend on Friday (April 26), shortly before she takes the stage at Stagecoach in Indio, California. âBaby Daddyâs Weekendâ is Kingâs first song to release in 2024.
âThis oneâs for the people who deserve a good summer,â King, who welcomed son Lucky Levi Tooker in September 2021, said as she shared a snippet of the song on Instagram on Friday. âItâs for people who need a break from their kids but miss them when they arenât around. Itâs for the people working two jobs, the people who never get to put themselves first! Itâs a song for all the people who make this world go round. Life isnât always fun and games, but when it is, itâs my Baby Daddyâs Weekend.â
âSunset, summertime season/ Drinkin', donât need a reason/ My songs on the radio/ Turn it up, raise a cup/ You think you feel it but/ Not yet/ My swag, you think itâs stolen/ Why you mad, I wrote it/ My songs on the radio/ Turn it up, raise a cup/ You think you feel it but/ It ainât even hit yet/ It ainât even hit yet/ It ainât even hit yet/ It ainât even hit yetâ
Kingâs latest full-length album is Come Get Your Wife, a 13-track collection that released in early 2023. The project includes âDrunk (And I Donât Wanna Go Home)â with Miranda Lambert â who is also set to perform at Stagecoach this weekend â âLucky,â âWorth A Shotâ with Dierks Bentley and more. King, 34, released âBaby Daddyâs Weekendâ months after a Dolly Parton birthday tribute stirred backlash. She said she was âf***ing hammered,â and appeared to forget the lyrics to Partonâs song during the Grand Ole Opry performance at the Ryman Auditorium in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee. King pushed pack several shows after that performance, and has since returned to the stage. She also spoke out about the tribute for the first time last month, and Parton previously said of King: âElle is really a great artist. Sheâs a great girl, and sheâs been going through a lot of hard things lately. And she just had a little too much to drink. So, letâs just forgive that and forget it and move on because she felt worse than anybody ever could.â
